Last Friday I attended the Grand Opening of the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre here at the University of British Columbia on Media credentials. It was an eye-opening experience and I am really glad I was able to attend because I had only been in the Lea ... Continue reading »

  • Awesome education institution and I must say the pictures were taken perfectly.
  • Has read with the pleasure, very interesting post, write still, good luck to you!
  • That looks like a beautiful building. Not only is the 'future of learning is mobility' but so is the future of work. I wonder how long it will be before most learning takes place via the internet. The age of the lecturer is dwindling and I wonder if the classes are going to begin changing like the infrastructure.
  • I prefer the real world experience of meeting other students and the social interaction it brings by being in a classroom. Just like I prefer going to a sports event rather than watching it on my laptop.

I think this is the future of learning centres. Tons of power outlets, able to eat and bring food or drinks to help you study. Everyone can be mobile with their laptop and mobile phones and tons of open spaces.
  • It is an incredible building. It is finals right now and Irving is always busy through the day. There are many tables and chairs that can be moved around as needed. The third floor has nice office-type chairs with half-tables that can be combined for group work.

It is conducive to team and group studying and it just feels good to be here.

I work here alot as it is a comfortable place to get stuff done. It is open from 7am-1am daily and even includes a cafe where you can get food and drinks as necessary. The future of knowledge sharing and collaborative learning.
  • This is a fantastic institution. Those learning there would be really lucky to have this brand new facility.
  • What a state of art learning centre! It looks like a hotel
  • These learning centers are the key to resources, Irving K has taken the right initiative in this direction and I am sure it going to prove good to groom the young talent for the future.
  • During the day it is so packed people sit on the floor to use their laptop and read. It will hopefully be 24 hours soon. As exams are upcoming I'm avoiding it as I feel bad taking a space when I can work in my rez.
  • Student life is no better, I remember my days when we used to sit any where irrespective of comfort to make the most of our times..
  • Avandamet to treat Diabetes, Type 2. I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes approximately 3 years ago. My A1C Sugar level was at 10.7. My doctor immediately prescribed Avandamet 4/1000 and it began to have an immediate positive impact on my sugar control. As of April of 2008, my last A1C was a remarkable 5.7 and my doctor is very pleased with the effectiveness of the drug.
  • I really like the way you have made the post, really a very good job done the way you have sequenced the pictures and text..
  • Seems like a very good center, hope they have quality education imparted.
  • It's a great place to study. The non-library portion goes 24/7 for the exam period.
  • 24/7 , wow thats great I am sure it is very good for the students.. Cheers..
  • Wow. Thanks for your great article. I like it very much, that you put so much photos in the article. Very good job - and thank you very much.

  • its really awesome.. this building seem to be a great learning place and i wish i could be there once.. I 'm sure people there must be really gifted to enjoy this complete mobility while learning the essential stuffs... thanks for sharing this :)
  • Valuable initiative taken..
  • That is a really beautiful learning center. Even Gordon Campbell was there. UBC looks like a beautiful school. Congrats on the opening of this center, I am sure it will benefit many people, and for many years to come.
  • It is such a popular place. I love studying there. It is packed during exams.
  • What a nice building. It is good to see that we are putting money into the right places. I think this is the first thing Gordan Campbell has done that I actually like!
  • It is such a popular place for students to get work done or just meet to socialise. There are study rooms throughout IKB and wiki is everywhere which is cool. It is open 7am-1am and may go 24 hours this Fall.
